Associate Electrical Design Engineer - Newcastle - Competitive Salary + Benefits
A key client of mine is currently looking for Electrical Design Engineers (Building Services) to join their growing Newcastle team. This is a senior role with responsibility for leading the design and delivery of electrical building services across a range of sectors, including commercial, residential, education, and healthcare.
You'll play a key role in shaping projects from concept through to completion, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior staff, and representing the business in client and design team meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the design of electrical building services, including schematic layouts, drawings, and supporting calculations.
- Carry out detailed design tasks such as:
- Building load assessments
- Cable calculations and sizing
- Internal and external general/emergency lighting design (Relux/Amtech/Hevacomp)
- Containment selection and sizing
- Selectivity studies and protective device specification
- Transformer selection and fault current analysis
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
- Monitor on-site works and provide technical support throughout construction.
- Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Provide guidance, support, and mentoring to colleagues; lead technical seminars for junior engineers.
- Stay up to date with regulatory standards and ensure compliance with company quality and safety systems.
- Ensure CAD/Revit outputs meet company standards and project requirements.
- 5-10 years' experience in electrical building services design within consultancy.
- Strong background in commercial, residential, education, and healthcare projects.
- Practical knowledge of design, operation, and commissioning of building services technologies.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit (2D/3D).
- Experience of site monitoring, installation review, and handover protocols.
- Detailed understanding of building regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to produce clear reports in plain English.
- Client-focused, able to represent the company effectively in meetings.
- Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Professional qualification (IEng/CEng) and membership of relevant body (CIBSE or equivalent).
